A quick look at my recent reads (starting top left):

The Language of Flowers: I really enjoyed this book; it’s about an eighteen year old girl with a troubled past and is trying to navigate her life post-foster child life. The flower tie in has to do with one of her caregivers and her love of flowers and how they can be used to convey different things. This book kept me interested the whole time and I highly recommend it.

Sisterland: This book was okay but not a favorite and not very memorable. I’m struggling to even figure out how to describe it. It’s about twins who have some sort of psychic power but it’s not so much about psychic and more about their lives. I loved the book Prep by the same author but this one just gets an eh rating.

Where We Belong:  I LOVED this book. It’s from Emily Giffin so that wasn’t a surprise but I couldn’t get enough of this one. I don’t know how to describe this book without giving away key details. It’s told from two points of view, a woman in her 30s living in NYC and an 18 year old who has a connection to that woman, that you’ll find out when you read the book. Also the main character goes to the University of Michigan so it’s a given I’d love it.

Wanderlust: This book is written by and about Elisabeth Eave, a woman who is in a constant state of Wanderlust, never able to stay put and settle, despite marriages, boyfriends, family etc. She travels all around and writes about her adventures along the way. This book took me a long time to get into but by the middle I enjoyed it. Some places she wrote about I had no interest in reading about but others I was totally into (like Australia since I’ve been and miss it). If you’re the traveling, wandering type, check it out.

The Night Circus: I did NOT like this book. It was so long, I found it boring and there were way too many unnecessary details about every single thing. I decided I didn’t like the book about 30% in but felt like I couldn’t give up that far into it. I’ve heard mixed reviews from friends, some loved it, some hated it. I’m in the latter camp. It’s about a magical circus and focuses in on certain people involved in it and a bigger event taking place, connected to the circus. Not my cup of tea.

The Interestings: I liked this book but it felt very long. Overall I was a fan but it’s not a favorite. It’s about a group of kids who meet at summer camp and then follows their lives for the next 20ish or so years. I found it entertaining and would recommend it but it’s not the first book that would come to mind to pass along.
