Pure Barre DVD Review: Mile High 1

June 4, 2013

Yesterday as my work day ended I debated the potential workouts I could do at night- go biking, take a yoga class or go to a TNT swim practice. I couldn’t decide, but when I left my office it was POURING so I decided to do none of the above! Instead, I went home and tried out my new Pure Barre Mile High 1 DVD.

Check out my review below!

Overall, it was a solid workout. If you’ve been to a Pure Barre (or really any barre class) it’s pretty similar. The warm up was tough and I was worried about what was in store after that, but it actually wasn’t SO hard. I worked up a sweat and felt shaky muscles along the way. This particular video required a ball (which you can buy on their site or a sporting goods store), a yoga mat and something to use for stability (I used a chair but a counter would be better) and focuses on lower body and ab exercises. I was disappointed to see there weren’t arm sculpting moves (except for in the warm up) but perhaps there is another DVD available that focuses on arms.

It’s a very efficient video (less than an hour) and hits your abs, hips, thighs and seat- trouble areas for many. You feel the targeted moves and know it’s working when those legs start trembling. I liked the instructor and it was a straight-forward DVD and not cheesy (like some tend to be). If you haven’t taken a barre class (at a studio) it may be hard to know the exact position you are supposed to be in. I recommend taking a couple of classes in person and then using the DVD (or getting into a routine that is part classes and part DVD workouts to save $$).

For a rainy day, this was an excellent bonus workout I could do in the comfort of my living room.

Next up I’ll try the Mile High 2 DVD and will let you know how it goes!
